Dr. Markus Laupheimer is a consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Villar Bajwa Practice. Markus started off his interest in musculoskeletal and sports medicine by working in sports and orthopedic centers in Switzerland, Germany, the US and the UK, before starting a general medical and GP rotation. He received an MD with distiction from Ulm Medical School (Germany) researching into immunology of joints and metal replacements, before qualifying as a GP and Consultant General Physician. He followed his longterm interest in Sports and Musculoskeletal Medicine by completing an MSc in Sports and Exercsie Medicine at Queen Mary University of London.

Having a keen interest in providing holistic Sports Medicine Care with an interest in MSK Ultrasound, Injection Therapies, Sports Nutrition, Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation, Markus has been working as a Sports & MSK Physician for the England Football Association from 2009 to 2016. Covering the England Senior Mens Futsal Team (one of the fastest growing sports in the world) and in the past part-time U18/U19 and U20 England Football Team and attended World and European Championships. During the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Markus worked as a Sports Medicine Doctor for Swimming, Diving, Waterpolo, Rowing and in the Athletes Village. In August 2012 Markus has been appointed as Sports and Musculoskeletal Consultant Physician for BUPA, in the 2013 also in their Center for Excellence in Sports and Musculoskeletal Medicine at Basinghall Street London.

Markus is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Sports and Exercise Medicine & Sports Consultant Physician at Queen Mary University of London, Institute of Health Sciences, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Next to practical Musculoskeletal & Sports Medicine he is interested in research and developing new ideas. In addition he completed an MBA from Bradford School of Management with distiction with an focus in Innovation Management. Innovation can sometimes be to use the latest research into natural products and treatments, combined with newest technology and medical evidence. Markus is a Member of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and is a Associate Editor of the BMJ open Sports and Exercise Medicine journal and British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Markus is interested in complementary medicine, acupuncture and nutritional medicine, which is gaining more scientific evidence.
